Mega Arms announced their new line of .308 Wedgelock Handguards. The .308 Wedgelock Handguards will fit DPMS patterned .308 Upper Receivers featuring the high profile. There will be three lengths, 16 5/8″ (Mega Extended – MSRP $357), 14 5/8″ (Extended – MSRP $326) and 12 5/8″ (Rifle – MSRP $295).
These new rails are expected to begin shipping around the beginning of 2Q 2017.
Mega Arms has a lot of new offerings at SHOT Show this year.
Starting off with their new Small Frame .308 AR which features an ambidextrous safety selector, bolt catch/release, magazine release and the Slidelock Charging Handle. The Small Frame .308 weighs in at 7.2 lbs and is available with a 16″ or 18″ barrel and a 14″ or 16″ handguard. The Small Frame .308 has a price point around $2500.

Mega also announced their new 6.5 Creedmoor 22″ barrel with included match bolt and firing pin. The barrel promises Sub-MOA and has been 2 years in the making. The barrel with included match bolt and firing pin will retail around $462.
Mega Arms has added two new variants to their upper receiver/handguard lineup, the “MKM MATEN KeyMod” and the “Wedge Lock AR-15 Handguard KeyMod”. With the quality that Mega Arms has produced in the past, I am positive that customers will not be disappointed in any aspect of these pieces. Key features that have been updated on these pieces is the addition of a short section of KeyMod slots at the 45 degrees at the front of the rail on the Wedge Lock. The MKM MATEN has removed almost the entire length of KeyMod slots at the 45 degrees, with the exception of the front of the rail and have replaced the commonly unused slots with an appealing angular and beveled design.

The new Mega Arms KeyMod .308 (MKM-MATEN) is built as a two piece precision-fit unit consisting of an upper receiver and a handguard. The MKM MATEN comes with an installed dust cover and includes the necessary assembly screws, a 9-Slot KeyMod rail section, barrel nut and wrench.

The MKM MATEN is only going to be compatible with a Mega Arms MATEN Billet Lower Receiver, though it will work with all standard KeyMod accessories.

The MKM MATEN has the strength and durability of a billet upper receiver coupled with the sturdy and lightweight extruded handguard. The installation of the MKM line is just about as easy as you can get with the rail only needing to be attached with the assembly screws.

The specs of the MKM MATEN include a black hard anodized finish with a surface hardness of “60 Rockwell”, an Inside Diameter (Handguard) of approximately 1.75 inches and the weight varies depending on the length. A 12” Rifle Length system weighs in at 28.4 oz and the cost is $552. A 14” Extended Rifle Length system weighs in at 29.8 oz and the cost is $583. The cost includes both the upper receiver as well as the rail and previously mentioned included items.

The new Mega Arms Wedge Lock AR-15 Handguard KeyMod features a new “cutting edge” ultra-strong and lightweight design that is simply attached with a one screw fastening system. I have not yet had the pleasure of testing this system out for myself, so this may end up being even an easier install than the MKM systems.

The Wedge Lock AR-15 Handguard is created from 7075-T6 extruded aluminum that features a Titanium barrel nut and a black Nitrided wedge system and also includes assembly tools. Compatible with any MIL-SPEC upper receiver, the Wedge Lock also features a handguard anti-rotation pin.

The specs of the Wedge Lock include an Interior Dimension of 1.225 inches, which will not allow a suppressor to be mounted under the rail. The Wedge Lock comes in five varying lengths and weights. The Carbine Length is 7” and has a weight yet to be determined. The cost of the Carbine Length is $249. The Mid Length is 9” and weighs in at 11.12 oz with a cost of $272. The Rifle Length is 12” and weighs in at 13.05 oz with a cost of $295. The Extended Rifle Length is 14” and weighs in at 14.33 oz with a cost of $326. Lastly, the Mega Extended Length is a whopping 16” long and weighs in at 15.58 oz with a cost of $357.

Mega Arms recently announced that they are shipping their new MATEN/.308 SL4000 Slide Lock Ambi Charging Handle. This ambidextrous charging handle is the big brother to the 5.56 version that has been out for a little while. The Slide Lock does not require a latch to be pulled to release the charging handle and features what I believe to be the least amount of moving parts for any charging handle, ambidextrous or not.
The Slide Lock is made from 7075-T651 Billet Aluminum with a black Nitrated latch and is compatible with any .308/Large Frame, Semi Auto Upper Receiver.

“Its finally time to tell you all the good news, Mega Arms Wedge Lock 7075 hand guards, compatible with any Mil Spec upper, have started shipping!
A collaboration with Hodge Defense Systems, the mind set from the start was to create the finest combative modular system that was strong, lightweight, and with a positive tactile feel. We spared no expense in our material selection understanding the rigors this hand guard would potentially be faced with. For example, most manufacturers exploit the use of 6061 aluminum for ease and cost of manufacturing, though 7075 has strength properties that exceed 6000 series aluminums at or near 40%. Our barrel nut is made from Titanium to help with strength/weight, and the thermal properties one would normally see with steel or aluminum during high volume of fire. We chose a little thicker wall thickness for a solid tactile feel, more surface area, added rigidity, as well as a more positive lock-up for modular accessories.
The Wedge Lock / Hodge Defense Hand guard slip fit attachment system utilizes a simple, yet robust method via a unique patented wedge lock system. We designed the front of this hand guard to allow a gloved shooter to access their suppressor attachment point via a small angle, so not to fight for space while gloved. A steel anti rotation pin is incorporated in the 12 o’clock upper section which mates with a predrilled hole as found on Mega Arms billet and forged uppers, as well in many of our competitors uppers. The hand guard can be mounted without the anti rotation pin if your upper does not have this feature.
Please note, that due to the slim design of the The Wedge Lock, sound suppressors will not fit under the hand guard like they do with our MKM and MML uppers.
First to be shipped are the 16″ Mega Extended length version, designed for use with an 18′ or longer barrel. 14″, 12″, 9″ and 7″ version will ship in descending order, so the carbine length will ship last. M-LOK variants are shipping first, Key Mod will follow shortly.

Mega Arms just posted a teaser reference their new ambidextrous charging handle on Facebook. Not a whole lot of information at this point, but they say that it has the fewest moving parts of any charging handle on the market. I’ll post more information as I get it.
Periodically I will take one of my rifle builds and break down all of the parts used to build it. If a part is not listed, such as an end plate, it is because it is a standard AR part that does not need mentioned if there is nothing overly special about it. I will also do my best to give you a link to where you can find the product for sale.
